This is interesting, and could be quite cool.
I meant to blog about this a while ago, but forgot. Thanks to a post on Daring Fireball, I've been reminded about Songbird.
Essentially, and poorly summarized, it's like combining Firefox (web browsing), and iTunes (playing media/music).
For a good summary, watch the Songbird Screencast. Very, very interesting. And, with 0.2.5, it'll play songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store, and also protected Windows Media files.

Their site doesn't seem to explain it, really, either... is it a tool to help you search for music, like Midomi, or is it a combo browser/media player so you don't need two programs running at the same time to surf and listen to music?

BoingBoing interview with Rob Lord
Although I suppose you could use it "just" to search the web, it looks like it's gunning more for iTunes, WMP, RealPlayer and the like. The browser part has greatly-enhanced music functionality (as the interview puts it, it "sees the online world through MP3-colored glasses") a media player with l33t 'net skillz. :D
